I have a desktop PC that I tested out the Windows 10 beta on. Everything worked great however I decided to put my original Windows 7 Home Premium back instead of Windows This is when the problem started. I did a clean install of Windows 7 HP which involved deleting the partitions and reformatting both drives after booting from the CD. The installation went without issues. As soon as I got the desktop I tried to activate because it apparently failed during install.
It took 4 attempts before it finally activated. Weird so I tried running Windows update. It had to do an update to let Windows Update run. That took 40 minutes when in the past it only took windows 7 home premium slow internet free download few seconds. Also weird.
It never finished and eventually generated an error. At this point I decided to so some speed tests on my network. For the internet though it downloads a burst at first but very quickly drops to about bps. I tried downloading tiny 1 MB files from 10 different sites or so and most timed out. All of those sites are credible like redhat, microsoft, etc and I could validate fast connections on another machine.
Tried downloading a file via FTP which had the same issue but didn't timeout. Tried different ports on router. Even plugged it into the cable my other Win7Pro machine is using. No difference. Clean installed Ubuntu just to rule out the OS. No problems at all but Ubuntu will not play my games Clean installed Windows 7 Ultimate from the same disk used for another machine.
But I don't have a 2nd spare key so I did not activate. Windows update and downloads though were very fast as expected. Contacted MS support. So I am at a loss.
